Youth Involvement Standing Committee

Committee on Generational Engagement

Fostering connection, dialogue, and shared leadership across generations within the Canadian Council of Churches.

The Committee on Generational Engagement aims to bring generations together to strengthen relationships, share wisdom, and shape the future of the Church through collaboration and renewal.

Introduction

This committee exists within the Canadian Council of Churches and is dedicated to cultivating meaningful intergenerational relationships. In a time when leadership and participation often reflect one generation more than another, we seek to create space for shared learning and dialogue across ages, experiences, and traditions. Rooted in our ecumenical call to unity and mutual care, we believe the future of the Church depends on connection across generations.

About the Committee

The Canadian Council of Churches has long served as a meeting place for dialogue and collaboration among Christian traditions in Canada. Yet as the landscape of faith continues to change, so too must the ways we connect across generations. The Commitee was formed to nurture these connections — an intergenerational initiative dedicated to fostering relationships, amplifying diverse voices, and renewing our shared life in Christ.

We recognize that the future of the Church hinges on genuine engagement between generations. This work calls each of us to examine our own assumptions and barriers, to listen deeply, and to make room for new perspectives while valuing the wisdom that has shaped the Council’s witness. Through conversation, mentorship, and shared participation in the Council’s ongoing life, we seek to model a way of being together that reflects the fullness of the body of Christ.

Whether you are just discovering the Canadian Council of Churches or have been part of its work for years, we invite you to join us.

Young Adult Engagement Research Project, 2024.

For the 2021-24 Triennium, the Governing Board adopted, as one of its first Operating Guidelines, to join and invite young adult engagement in the activities of the Council. As a result, the Young Adult Eco-System was created and implemented. In order to take this initiative further, this research project was undertaken in order to explore previous efforts of the Council to involve young adults in their work and to look for recommendations and areas of improvement that the Council can integrate heading into the next triennium.

This research project delves into the work of previous youth committees of the Council, examines the efforts to engage young adults in the 2021-24 Triennium, and makes recommendations for the Council going forward for the 2024-27 Triennium in order to increase, encourage, and cultivate young adult voices and leadership in the Council’s work.
