Canadian Council of Churches Staff Attending GETI 2025 and Nicaea 2025!

The Canadian Council of Churches extends warm wishes to two of our staff members as they participate in the World Council of Churches’ (WCC) Global Ecumenical Theological Institute (GETI) 2025 and the Sixth World Conference on Faith and Order. Both events are being held at the historic Saint Bishoy Monastery in Wadi El Natrun—a renowned centre of Coptic monasticism located southwest of Alexandria, Egypt.

Deivit Montealegre, Associate Secretary of the Forum for Intercultural Leadership and Learning, is serving as one of the organizers for the GETI 2025 program. Roshney Kurian, Program Facilitator of the Commission on Justice and Peace, is attending both the GETI program and the Faith and Order conference.

GETI, an international study initiative of the WCC’s Ecumenical Theological Education program, brings together young and emerging theologians and educators from diverse Christian traditions and all eight regions of the WCC. Through shared learning and dialogue, participants engage deeply with pressing theological questions and contemporary global challenges.

The 2025 program, taking place from 12–29 October under the theme “Where now for visible unity?”, provides a vibrant space for ecumenical leadership formation, theological reflection, and intergenerational exchange with leaders of the global ecumenical movement. Participants explore themes ranging from creed and confession to justice, reconciliation, decolonization, and the contextual realities of the Middle East.

The participation of the Canadian Council of Churches staff in these historic gatherings highlights our Council’s ongoing commitment to ecumenical dialogue, theological education, and global Christian unity. We look forward to the insights and experiences Deivit and Roshney will bring back to enrich our shared work for justice, peace, and reconciliation in Canada and beyond!
