Called to Be Salt and Light: 2024 Annual Report

The Canadian Council of Churches’ theme for 2024 was “Called to Be Salt and Light.” As the Council celebrated 80 years since its foundation, its members reflected on their history, their work, and how they have and can continue to be, as Christ said in the Gospel of Matthew, the salt of the earth and the light of the world.

2024 was a significant and full year for the Council. As the first year of the 2024-27 Triennium, each body of the Council set their priorities for the next three years. Faith leaders met with the former Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, the new Corrections and Restorative Justice Working Group, the Commission on Justice and Peace, and the Faith and Life Sciences Reference Group hosted webinars. Young adults in the ecumenical movement shared their experience, thoughts, and wishes for the future of the Council. The Council released pastoral letters, statements, and resources. In the 2024 fundraising campaign, $765,000 were raised, and celebrated alongside the General Secretary of the World Council of Churches, the Rev. Prof. Dr. Jerry Pillay.
