The Commission on Faith and Witness of the Canadian Council of Churches would like to invite you to register for the 6th Canadian Forum on Inter-Church Dialogues, 22-23 June, 2015, in Saskatoon, SK.
Over the years, the Commission on Faith and Witness has periodically organized the Canadian Forum on Inter-Church Dialogues as a way of bringing together those engaged in ecumenical dialogues to discuss their experiences, exchange information, and learn from others engaged in this work. We are especially pleased that this year’s Forum will be held in conjunction with the Prairie Centre for Ecumenism’s annual Program in Ecumenical Studies and Formation.
2015 Forum Highlights:
We are delighted to welcome two distinguished contributors to the ecumenical movement as our keynote speakers – Sr. Donna Geernaert, S.C., chancellor of Mount Saint Vincent University (Halifax, Nova Scotia), and Dr. Timothy George, dean of Beeson Divinity School (Homewood, Alabama).
Sr. Geernaert is a former chair of CCC Faith and Witness Commission, and brings a wealth of experience as a Roman Catholic representative on national and international inter-church and inter-faith dialogues, including an appointment to the Plenary Commission of WCC Faith and Order and her current work with the International Anglican-Roman Catholic Commission on Unity and Mission. Sr. Geernaert also serves as the Congregational Leader for the Sisters of Charity (Halifax) and is responsible for missions across Canada, the Eastern United States, Bermuda, and Peru.
Dr. George chairs the Doctrine and Christian Unity Commission of the Baptist World Alliance, and is an active participant in the Evangelical – Roman Catholic Church dialogue. A renowned Baptist theologian, Dr. George has recently been invited by the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity to speak at the Vatican celebration of the 50th anniversary of Unitatis Redintegratio (Decree on Ecumenism). He is an ordained minister in the Southern Baptist Convention, and has served various churches in the United States.
A panel will be offered in honour of Dr. Margaret O’Gara, noted ecumenical leader and beloved teacher, and Roman Catholic representative on several national and international dialogues. Panelists include Bishop Don Bolen of Saskatoon. The panel will discuss aspects of Dr. O’Gara’s newly-published book of essays, No Turning Back: The Future of Ecumenism.
Please see the poster and draft agenda for details about the speakers, and for more information about other panels and workshops.
